Banana Oil is a “Jazz Power Trio”, from Glasgow, Scotland.
Members include: Niall Morris (Electric Bass), Laurie Pitt (Drums) & Joe Howe (Tenor Saxophone, Keyboard). Banana Oil aims to sound like: 'The Mothers of Invention without all the toxic masculinity'.
Others think Banana Oil sounds like:
'Naked City by-way-of Ren & Stimpy cartoons. Exotic, brain-frying rhythms and bass elasticity scorched by a sax tone that walks the line between smooth as made-up vegetable oil and coarse free jazz skronk' - Monorail Music.
'Wiggy tunefulness and playful sense of structure' - Stewart Smith, The Quietus.
'despite all its complexities somehow this feels super accessible' - Ravechild
“Ultamate Mix” (10/10) is a new Compact Disc from the group, and comes attached to a portable Heraldic Banner (banana scented). 5 new tracks, with assorted names.
The music on this album was recorded over a period of about 2 and a half hours in October of 2017. THE DRUNKARD’S CLOAK was enhanced with the use of a V.S.O (variable speed oscillator). The material was recorded live at Spectrum Space in Glasgow, to TASCAM 8 TRACK TAPE RECORDER at 30 ips, with no over-dubs and engineered by Rob Alexander, or Chilly Roy as he is known to the trade, with mixing by Niall Morris & Laurie Pitt (alphabetically). Mastering credits (Preset: JAZZY CLEAN) go to Joe Howe at home.
